Since 2020 the US. technology index NASDAQ 100 has shown increases, reaching new historical levels recalling with this behavior the episode of the dotcom bubble (1998-2000). Due to this, this article aims to compare the dot-com bubble with the current situation of companies in the technology sector based on the changes which have emerged since 2020. Using a mixed methodological research design, the comparison examines the possible formation of another technology bubble and is based on two types of analyses, the first on the event in 2000 and the second on the current context. As main findings of the comparison similarities and differences can be found for both periods (dotcom bubble and technology sector in 2020/21). Nevertheless, as the identified differences appear much more convincing, the article concludes that currently there does not exist a new asset price bubble within the U.S. technology sector.
