Retirement systems in public universities: the case of the UAQ

The Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro (UAQ), like other universities in Mexico, had implement different reforms to their institutional pension systems. These research has the objective is to show a perspective of the aging process of the academics of the UAQ. In addition, its offers an overview about the relationship between academic staff age and the retirement system that the institution has. To achieve the proposed objective, the UAQ´s academic staff of the UAQ, whose has the right to dynamic retirement, was analyzed by sex and income level. The analyzed information allows us to observe that, in the short term, the aging of the academic staff will represent a significant financial problem for the institution. Furthermore, if UQ academic staff postpone their retirement, at the moment of have the right, it translates into economic losses for the institution.
