The study analyzes the production of grain corn in Mexico. The research focuses on a regional analysis taking into account hectares planted and harvested in different regions of Mexico. The results show variability and heterogeneity in different regions, where the states of Sinaloa, Chihuahua and Jalisco are productive leaders in planting and harvesting corn with higher yields. Other states, located in the central, southern and southeastern regions show stagnation in their production levels; this may reflect the fact that most of the production is for self-consumption with low production levels. The biocultural value of preserving endogenous varieties coexisting with agro-industrial production required for the domestic market is highlighted.
