Main Article Content
This paper has the objective to estimate the Social Development Index (IDS, by its Spanish acronym) for the boroughs of Mexico City, for the years 2010 and 2020. The IDS in calculated using the unsatisfied basic needs method, which allows comparing the conditions of social development of the population, based on a set of indicators with which the standards to be met are established. The IDS has nine dimensions: housing quality and space, energy adequacy, durable goods access, sanitary adequacy, connectivity access, educational achievements, social security access, medical services access, and food access. These indicators are combined through a uniform weighting, which is based on the universal social rights approach. The IDS is a powerful tool to measure, analyze, evaluate and monitor the degree of social development of the City, in order to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of government strategies.
