Building Bridges: Intergenerational Dialogue in Public Space
Main Article Content
The proposal "Building Bridges: Intergenerational Dialogue in Public Space" seeks to promote social interaction between different age groups in public spaces, essential for community life. This approach was implemented in the Day House for the Elderly in Toluca and in the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the UAEMéx, where intergenerational communication was promoted as a means to exchange experiences and values, strengthening understanding and mutual respect.
Experiential learning is a key component, emphasizing that dialogue and reflection are fundamental to an effective educational process. It is crucial to pay attention to both the dialogue and the structure of learning, allowing young people and older adults to share skills and knowledge, thus enriching the experience of both groups.
The relevance of these meetings lies in their contribution to creating inclusive environments that improve the quality of life of older adults and foster stronger communities. Promoting mutual understanding, inclusive design of public space and active aging are essential for sustainable urban development. This initiative not only seeks to overcome generational barriers, but also to build a resilient community that values diversity and inclusion in all its aspects.
