Moises Alejandro Alarcon

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of market concentration and its impact on competition and the economy. Using data from Scopus and Bibliometrix software tools, 2,811 articles published between 2000 and 2024 were examined. The results show an annual increase of 2.09% in article production, with notable peaks in 2008, 2017, and 2023. International collaboration is significant, with 25% of the articles co-authored by authors from different countries. The central themes include competition, market structure, and game theory, highlighting their relevance and impact in the field. Additionally, emerging research areas such as switching costs and service quality are identified. Prominent institutions like the University of California and Harvard Medical School lead academic production, while journals like Energy Policy and the International Journal of Industrial Organization are the main publications. Principal component analyses highlight thematic interconnections, especially in sectors such as energy and health. This study not only provides a comprehensive overview of current trends and collaborations but also suggests future research directions in the economics of competition and industrial organization.
